Fairbridge Western Australia Inc. is an education and training institution and the state’s largest provider of outdoor educational activities for school and community groups through our camps located throughout WA. Various activities are offered that utilise the beautiful country and surrounds of each camp site. Our programs deliver hands-on learning experiences to a variety of age and ability levels on land and on the water, or up high amongst the trees.

 

We are seeking expressions of interest for an inspirational and experienced leader for our Maritime Program. One such program is SeaTrek, which is a long running and popular education-adventure experience in which groups of teenagers – usually between 15-20 – are led on coastal sailing expeditions of between four and six days duration.  The expeditions are delivered with Fairbridge’s extensive facilities and capabilities including yachts, support vessels, accommodation, and experienced staff.

SeaTreks have operated in the islands off Dampier for over twenty years and in 2025 we are exploring possible expansion to the Cockburn Sound/ Perth area based out of Camp Fairbridge, Point Peron.

About the opportunity

We are looking for a person that can take the lead and leverage our existing maritime assets and unique geographic locations to build an enhanced program that may include sail training, recreational skippers tickets, and other maritime qualifications mainly for secondary school groups.

Not only will you have the qualifications and technical capabilities required to build and run our Maritime Program, but you will have the qualities to lead the team, and promote the Program to targeted customer groups.

About You

You will have:

  • A passion for sailing, marine exploration, and guiding young people.
  • Leadership ability to share our vision and promote the Program to target markets.
  • Ability to manage, motivate and maintain a team.
  • Experience in maintaining compliance with AMSA and other marine regulatory safety and training requirements.
  • Experience maintaining boats and sailing gear to the required standards.
  • Sail training experience with relevant sailing instructor qualifications.,
  • Minimum of Coxswain 2 with Master 4 desirable.
  • Drivers Licence and experience in using trailers.
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Good level of computer skills
  • Working with Children card
  • Willingness to travel, camp, fish, and snorkel.
  • Level of physical fitness.

 

The position will be based at Camp Fairbridge Point Peron (near Rockingham, Western Australia) except for a period in the winter months where it will be based at Camp Fairbridge Dampier, Western Australia.
